Endoscopic treatment for weight regain after bariatric surgery (Re do).
Despite the effectiveness of bariatric surgery for weight loss, some individuals may regain their lost weight over time.
The stomach, just like any other muscular tissue, is capable of extending or dilating in the presence of internal pressure. This allows the stomach to accept greater amounts of food and results in weight gain.
Is there any way to treat a dilated stomach?
It is possible to perform a re do procedure by means of endoscopic suturing in order to once again decrease the size of the dilated stomach. This will cause a feeling of satiety with smaller amounts of food.
How is the endoscopic suture re do performed?
The procedure is performed without the need of surgery by means of an endoscopy and under sedation. It takes 2-3 hours to complete, and the patient remains hospitalized for 24 to 48 hours. Following hospital discharge, the patient may return to normal activities with minimal limitations. It will be necessary to follow a special diet for 6 to 8 weeks.
How do I know if I am a candidate for this procedure?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, then you are a candidate for an endoscopic suture re do.
